Where Do You Get Your Menu for the Week?
Beauty Blog: Health and Fitness
Times are busy for everyone and how often do you have time to sit down and look through your cookbook and decide on a great meal for your family? I know with two kids, a husband who works a lot and a new baby on the way I do not have time for that. Well lucky for me and now you, I have found MenufortheWeek.com and no my meal planning and shopping list have been done for me!
I was lucky enough to speak with the founder of MenufortheWeek.com, Dawn and learn more about her company. Here is what Dawn shared with us in her own words.
- How and why was MenufortheWeek.com created? I knew there was a need for this business because I’m one of the few people I know who aren’t standing around scratching their heads at 5:00 wondering what they are going to feed their family. I know from a personal stand point that if I did not know what we were going to have in advance, I’d go crazy. Dinner is the one thing I never have to worry about. I wish I could say the same for all of my other domestic duties.
- How long has your company been in business? Menufortheweek.com was founded in October 2008.
- What made you put your focus on creating meals for others? Having always shared my meal plans and recipes with my sisters and others and my passion for cooking prompted me to start the website. It was also the idea of sharing something (planning my meals by the week) that has made my life so much easier, with others.
- Why online vs a cookbook? Good question. I think I will eventually publish a cookbook, but what I love about an online website is that it is always changing and evolving. In the case of my menus, it comes to people one week at a time and I think it is less overwhelming than a huge cookbook.
- How do you select the menus for the week? I’ve always loved to cook and find new recipes. I’m the person at any party jotting down the recipes from dishes that people have brought. I went into this business with a lot of recipes I’ve collected over the years. I read cookbooks like most people read novels. I always find recipes that look pretty good and then alter them to make them great. Growing up in the south has been a big influence for my cooking. I grew up eating the best food in the world. People go to Louisiana just to eat. My recipes reflect the Cajun in me. That’s part of what makes them so delicious.
- How did you decide to offer so much to your subscribers – menu, shopping list, etc? I offer people the time consuming part of cooking – the meal planning and shopping list. I hear moms say, “If someone would just tell me what to cook.” I do that and then take a step farther by telling people what they need to buy.
- What is your favorite meal and why? I think fajitas might be my favorite meal. I love it because it’s so easy and versatile. It’s good with beef or chicken. It can easily be grilled or cooked on the stove. It goes great with guacamole and it can feed a lot people if I have company. And the best part is, it’s delicious.
- What is your favorite meal for kids? That tends to change almost daily, but I can always count on them loving Grilled lime chicken with black beans and rice. The less time a meal takes me make, the more they like it.
- How do you see your company growing in the next several years? I have almost met my first goal of having subscribers in every state. Over the next several years, I would like that number to grow exponentially. I love getting lots of local press and would love to see menufortheweek.com get national press. The possibilities are endless, but my focus will always be on providing busy moms with delicious, easy, inexpensive meals for their family.
Dawn is a wonderful woman and an amazing cook. Well I am assuming she is an amazing cook because her recipes are amazing and the food always comes out great. If you would like to save some time each week or even one week a month, you must sign up for Dawn’s services at MenusfortheWeek.com
