Week Two
Beauty Blog: Health and Fitness
So my week two is being posted a day early because on the 20th of every month we do a feature with Jill from Lemongrass Spa.
As I get ready to start week two I want to reflect on week one. Week One went really well for the most part. I was not able to get to the gym like I would have liked but I was able to get in some workouts other ways. On Monday I needed to do cardio and I did. I walked 4.10 miles that day pushing my two boys in their double stroller to the Cherry Creek mall and back. Parts of it were up hill and parts were down hill. I would say I got a good workout from this since I did so much walking and then pushing the boys. The only thing I would change would be to wear my workout shoes and not my flip flops. My feet sure hurt when I got home. =)
Another great day was Wednesday. I started running a little bit. Remember I had a C-Section 6 weeks ago so I am not a runner yet. I set my goal for 20 minutes with a 5 incline and started walking at 4. I did this for two and a half minutes and then I would run for a minute at 5.5. I did this for the entire 20 minutes and then did a 2 minute cool down. I was able to complete 1.52 miles in this time period. I was proud of myself and proud that I was able to get back into a little running. Doing this also made me remember how much I loved to run. I started to run after I lost my second child in January 2007. I ran as a way to release my stress and anger from my loss. I also picked up running again after my son was born in 2008. Now I hope that I am able to do the same in 2009 without having shin splint issues this time. I will keep you posted on my slow running progress.
I also did an upper body workout on Wednesday because I was not able to get that done on Tuesday. I did a few upper body exercises on Tuesday at home but not the work out I wanted. I was able to lift light weights and do my three sets with reps of 20, 15, 10. I did this for 6 different exercises, targeting 3 different muscle groups. I did not really do much for my back so the next time I do upper body I need to think about doing exercises that are good for my back. I also wanted to make sure I pushed myself but not to the point that I would be too sore to pick up my two youngest children that need to be carried. So far so good.
Thursday I did 10 minutes of walking pushing myself. I knew it was too soon to try to run again since I did that last night. I do want to push myself and live up to my expectations but I don’t want to get hurt in the process. I also did my lower body exercises. However I was a little more reserved this time around. The last time I did lower body - before I started these blogs - I hurt so much I could hardly bend down or sit down without having some pain in my legs. I did three sets of reps but the number of reps depended on the exercise. I was able to do 4 different lower body exercises and feel pretty good about it. I hope I still feel that way in a few days.
One other great thing about this week is that I have been tracking what I eat and drink in the Sportee Gal journal. This has been great.I think I eat healthier and I also know how much I am eating. I did cheat on Monday and have a large cookie and I wrote that down. I felt guilty because it was not my cheat day but I wrote it down, I owned it! I continue to realize that I do not drink enough water and I really need to work on that. Again my goal for this week is to drink more water and be able to run during all three of my cardio workouts.
How are your workouts going? How was this week for you? Please let me know.

I had to cringe when you said you walked over 4 miles in flip flops! Oy!! I hope you got a good foot massage after that.
On my work outs I’ve been struggling. Work and obligations keep getting in my way. Was going to try and get up early this morning and do it to it. But I think I’m coming down with a cold. Joints hurt and sinuses were plugged and painful. Glad to hear your doing well though. I’m going to give another go tomorrow if I can shake this whatever it is.
