Week Six - Life Happens

Beauty Blog: Health and Fitness

Six weeks have passed since I began my journey of getting back into shape and blogging about it on my website. It has been a great journey thus far and I look forward to the finish line in terms of meeting my short term goals of weight loss. Exercise and eating right will always be a part of my life. I am happy to say that I now have 8 pounds of pregnancy weight left and then my 5 additional pounds to go.

Before I started writing today I was looking at the newest People Magazine - love it - and I saw a picture of Trista Sutter post baby number 2 back to her size 2 rockin’ body. I decided to read the story and see how long ago she had her baby. Much to my relief it was longer ago than when I had my son. She does exercise 45 minutes a day - I don’t on my running days- and also has a personal trainer. I am sure all of us could be in pretty good shape with a trainer. But hey, I give her props for looking so great after two children. I hope I look great after four!

So my title “Life Happens” is so true this week. I had to take a step back and realize I am in control of only so much. If you have been following my blog then you know I have a newborn baby at home who is 9 weeks old. He has been sick with a stuffy nose for a few weeks but then developed a cough this week as well. We spent Monday afternoon at the doctor’s office for two hours and then the ER for 4 and then spent the night at the hospital. Needless to say my eating suffered and so did my workout. However my son and his health were much more important. I am happy to report that he is doing much better.

This event caused me to look at my life and my expectations. I realize that there will be times, especially considering I have three kids 5 and younger, that life will keep me from completing what I want to do in a week and all of this is okay. It is okay that I missed a workout, I made it up on Wednesday and ran my 2 miles plus did my leg workout. Thursday I was a little tired and sluggish so I didn’t run 2 miles but I did my workout. I did 1.50 miles. I also have to realize that in order to perform in the gym I need sleep and I am lacking that right now.

While I was at the gym this week I read the quote on the wall by Lance ArmstrongI don’t have bad days, I have good days and great days.” This quote made me think. I really like it! Our days don’t have to define who we are and they don’t have to be bad days, just not our best days. So this week I had some good days and I had some great days. All are good since I am doing what I need and want to do.

The other set back was that I was not able to get a spin class in this week. I am sad to report this. I got great feedback on this idea from readers and I still plan to spin and spin soon. I know I will need to be rested to spin for 60 minutes but I hope I am up for the challenge soon.

How were your workouts this week? Did you have a “life happens” moment that you would like to share? Please do! I would like to know what all of you are up to in your workout routine. Oh and I am looking for some new songs to add to my workout playlist so PLEASE leave your music suggestions in the comment box.

See you next week for my wrap up of week 7.
