Week 3
Beauty Blog: Health and Fitness
Well another week and there were some great things about week three and some not so great things.. I have struggled to figure out what I share first. Do I share the bad first and then relish in the good? I remind myself with anything good in life there is struggle and this is no exception. I would like the results to come faster but I will take what I can get.
My “diet" or eating habits were not so great this week. I have become somewhat addicted to Starbucks Tazo Passion Tea and their banana loaf. I would have at least one of their teas a day and then about every other day have their banana loaf as a snack. Well my curiosity about the number of calories in these two items led me to do some research and what I found out was not good. I was using almost 500 calories a day on these two items that were not good for me. Since I had been eating this food, it blew my diet for the week. I also met some girlfriends for lunch Friday and I should have just gotten the house salad where we were because nothing on the menu was good for me. I knew this because I looked up nutrition facts on their menu before I went. And FYI, just because the menu says ”health choice” or whatever the wording is the menu may show the carbs, fats, calories don’t forget about items it doesn’t mention like sodium.
Needless to say I was disappointed in my choices for the week. No one made me make my poor choices but me and I regret them. I did however look forward to Saturday when I could eat whatever I wanted and not feel bad. Saturday is my cheat day and I sure ate junk. I think this was an attempt to hold me over for the week. I am going to be very smart week 4 about what I eat and I hope to report next week that I did well.
Now on to the good stuff. My workouts are getting more intense since I have passed the 6 week mark from my C-Section. I feel more strength also from working out for three weeks. I am able to run more than I was able to last week, I am able to do more with my lunges than I was able to last week, and I have a goal for today. I am going to run and walk the same 4.02 miles I did in week 2 to the mall. This time it will be in workout clothes and tennis shoes without the kids and with my workout music. I have no set goal for the time, I just know when I am done I will have completed 4.02 miles and that is great. I know my body very well and I know I can do this and not put myself or my health at risk.
I was never a runner until 2007. I didn’t see the “value” in running and I had no desire to run for fun or for exercise. I was fine doing another type of cardio workout on the machines. That was until I lost Kenzi. After I lost Kenzi, I found myself running and loving it. I think it was my way to deal with my loss and my grief. I could run and run and it felt good. I might have been trying to run from my grief, anger and pain but it sure felt good. I also found that it was a wonderful stress relief. I took up running again in 2008 after Kamden was born and ran as much as I could. I hope to get back into that same grove and have that same desire now. And since I am not having more children there won’t be any bumps in my running road to keep me from getting to where I would like to be - yet to be determined.
Another positive result this week was that I have lost some weight, about 2 pounds since I started to keep track. I try not to weigh myself much because I get very discouraged. I was also able to fit back into some of my jeans. This felt really good. Being able to fit back into some of my jeans proves to me more than the scale that I am making changes to my body and what I am doing is actually working. It reminds me of where I have been and where I will be!
