Beauty Blog: Body Care, Hair, Hands and Feet, Skin care
As a mother and a professed lover of beauty products, I am always pleased when I come across a company that I think does great things and has great products. I have had the pleasure of coming across Sweetsation Therapy and was able to gather some information from the founder, Natalja Millsap. Here is what I learned about Sweetsation Therapy and Natalja in her own words.
- How and why was your company founded? My company was born in 2008. Shortly after I got pregnant. Time stands still for no one, so being a woman way over 30 and pregnant, I was concerned with aging and continued to use skin care products I had already, only soon to find out that all of them contained not only harmful chemicals but also many ingredients that are linked to deformities and low birth weight in babies. Wondering and shocked why I haven’t thought of it before, I was set to replace all of my products quickly. But soon I faced a problem. I couldn’t find the products I was looking for: they had to be organic, contain elasticity boosting oils (against stretch marks), smell good, possess anti-aging properties and fight and repair sun damage and uneven skin associated with pregnancy. One may think that I wanted too much, but I think that any modern pregnant woman absolutely deserves to be able to look beautiful during pregnancy and feel good about her appearance – and do it the safe way. I have been working in cosmetic industry with leading brands for the past 20 years, and now it was the time to put all my knowledge and experience to work on totally new segment, and see what happens.
- How long has your company been in business? We will be celebrating a year this summer, so we are still in an infant stage, so to speak, but a lot have been achieved during this year. We have added a Baby skin care line, which felt very natural thing to do after my baby boy was born. And few new products have been added to both lines. Having a baby now and seeing what skin issues I have postpartum and what kind of products I would use on my baby, we are working on a few exciting projects to add to our lines in the nearest future.
- What made you put your focus on Moms and Babies? Being a mom now, and taking care of my baby – it’s my world now. And I am finding ways how to make living the most natural. These days we are overloaded with chemicals and babies are born pre-polluted with over 300 chemicals found in the blood of their umbilical cord. And those chemicals let themselves known in a form of eczema, asthma, autism and other disorders that were unheard of just 50 years ago. Some of the chemicals and pollutants get in the body of pregnant women through polluted air and a lot of it through skin care that they use. Skin is the largest organ in our body and everything applied to it eventually ends up in bloodstream. There are 1000s of chemicals banned in Europe and only 10 here in USA. So I feel that it is our job to educate consumer (moms for the most part) on the choices they can make.
- Why Organic? It is just adding pureness to natural. We try to avoid ingredients that may have been contaminated with pesticides. A lot of natural plants that become ingredients are grown with the use of pesticides that are a common chemical substance used to kill pests. It’s potentially toxic to humans and animals. We try to avoid them
- How are your products similar or different from other Organic products out there? I haven’t actually compared our products to others, ingredient by ingredient, the work itself would be too daunting and potentially useless. There are a few companies exist that offer Organic products. And I am sure they are all wonderful. We just have different products, backgrounds and stories behind the products and companies. And all of them have their own appeal and loyal customer. It is a personal choice to find what you like the best. And having a choice is a great thing.
- How often do you introduce new products? All the time. We usually work on a few new products at the same time. Sometimes it takes weeks and months to tweak one formula to perfection and sometimes it just miraculously happens right away. Right now we are working on 6 new products that will be coming out later this year.
- Do you only sell your products online? Yes, at this time you can find our products online. Being a new company on the market and taking current economy in consideration, we are not planning to open a brick and mortar store yet. But we are in the process of having our products offered for sale in already existing mother-baby related stores.
- What is your favorite product for Moms? It is usually the one I am working on. It’s the most exciting part. But from existing products it has to be Ellasti*Belly Miracle Caviar, it saved me from getting stretch marks during my pregnancy. And I’ve designed it while being pregnant. Next to follow is Sun*Brella Triple action moisturizer. It’s the first on the market pregnancy-safe anti-aging product that also has chemical-free sunscreen and sun damage repair qualities. My favorite product that I am working on right now is Super Charged Anti Cellulite treatment that will be designed for moms who’ve already had their babies and need urgently lose those extra jiggly pounds that seem to appear with every breath you take during pregnancy. So keep tuned.
- What is your favorite product for babies? It has to be the most yummy ones. Yummi*Tummi Butter and Sun’n’Fun sunscreen smell like chocolate, Bubbles’n’Bubbles baby shampoo smell like Orange juice. But, I’ve designed all of my products, so they are all my babies, and I love them all.
- Why or how did you select the March of Dimes as the charity you support? There are a lot of wonderful charities that we would like to support. But this choice came about from my own heartbreaking experience. I was pregnant with my second child and unfortunately I lost the baby being 5 months pregnant. It was a girl. I will never know what happened, she always had such a strong heart beat…. This is why we donate a portion of sales to support honorable work and research that March of Dimes does, and we hope that one day every conceived baby will be born healthy.
- How do you see your company growing in the next several years? Are you going to add new products to your line? Do you see adding men’s products to your lines? We are picking up the speed much faster then anticipated and, sure, will be adding new products all the time to keep up with demand and spoil moms-to be and babies. We don’t plan to add men’s line as of yet, but we may entertain this idea in the future. What we do plan to add, is Organic skin care line for young boys transforming into a men and young girls transforming into a women and all the skin issues associated with it. But that’s another story…
