Beauty Blog: Hands and Feet
New nail designs are out there for you to wear without breaking the bank. If you are a person who loves to wear fake nails but hates to spend the $40 to get a new set on and then pay $20 or more for a re-base, I suggest you try
Revlon’s new Runway Collection. These Acrylic nails can be found at your local drugstore for $7.99 and you can apply them yourself. However I might suggest that you have someone help you if you are anything like I was when trying to apply the nails.
Let me be clear, I do not wear Acrylic nails on a regular basis but I have in the past for special occasions so I am aware of what a quality set of nails is and how long they last, how often they require upkeep and how they must be removed. Everyone knows that most Acrylic nails if not all require glue if you really want them to stick and stay on for some time. The Runway Collection is no exception, the kit comes with your own bottle of glue along with a buffer and 24 nails. The 24 nails allow you to find the perfect match for your nail size. I was able to find a match for each of my own nails.
One step that is not mentioned in the directions that I think needs to be is that you should trim your own nail down before applying these nails. Now to some that may be stating the obvious but to other is may not be. And maybe you are interested in growing out your real nails or you need something fancy for an event, in both cases your nail must be trimmed down. After you have selected the perfect Acrylic nails to fit your fingers, apply glue to one of your real nails, add the fake nail and hold for 5 seconds. After this amount of time the fake nail should have adhered to your real nail and you can move on to the next nail until you are finished. There is a wooden nail tool included to clean up any glue you may have gotten on your fingers.
My experience with the Acrylic nails was pretty good. I am right handed so I was able to breeze through putting the nails on my left without much effort. However my left hand isn’t as good as my right. I didn’t put down enough glue for one nail, I over did it on another nail, I had glue on my fingers and it had to be a funny sight from an outsiders point of view. Once I got the nails on they were very similar to nails you would get at a salon for $40 or more. The nails are designer nails with great designs. I choose french manicure with a bit of flare with a silver touch added at the ends. The company recommends that you replace the nails after 7 days but I think you can get by with at least 10 depending on how fast your real nails might grow.
Removal… Well you have the non traditional option of ruining what is left of your real nail and pulling them off or using a tool to pry the fake nail away from your real nail. It does work but does damage to your real nail and nail bed. I tried it this way for one nail to see how it would work. The other way is just like the directions say, soak in acetone polish remover. So sit back and relax while your nails soak off.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone who likes to wear Acrylic nails and is not interested in breaking the bank to do so.
