Not Just A Pretty Face
Beauty Blog: Make-up, Skin care
I am a person who loves to read and cannot wait to get my hands on Not Just A Pretty Face. Here is a great review written by Jill Breheny who is Pamper Yourself Denver’s personal choice when needing any Lemongrass Spa product and who also provides us with wonderful information on Lemongrass Spa products on the 20th of every month. If you have read this book, we would love to hear what your thoughts are!
Not Just a Pretty Face by Stacy Malkan is an outstanding book and I recommend it constantly to those I know, especially women. The facts in this book are shocking since there are so many toxins in the skin care and cosmetic products sold to Americans at both lower end drugstores as well as the fanciest cosmetic counter with the highest price tags.
I had the privilege of hearing Stacy Malkan speak in Denver CO and I feel confident about such an intelligent and well spoken woman as Stacy talking to Congress about lead in lipstick as well as the need for reforms. However, we need to be our own watchdogs and safeguard our own health (as well as our family’s health) by being informed. Every single night on the news you will hear stories about foods to eat for your health and foods to avoid. Have you ever noticed that information such as toxins in our body wash, eye shadow and other products does not make the nightly news? This is no coincidence, as the more than $50 billion cosmetics industry keeps their missteps closely guarded.
Most Americans have no idea that skin care products are NOT regulated by the FDA and they are shocked to learn that it is allowed to have toxins in our every day skin care products such as: mercury (thimerosal), lead, triclosan, formaldehyde and other horrible carcinogens. It is outrageous!
I speak to women regularly about these issues, as we need to know that when we bathe our children or take a shower, even a trace of these chemicals makes a difference and we deserve to have safe lotions, shampoo and deodorant to use on our largest organ. I always tell people that they will learn an enormous amount reading this book and enjoy the process because Stacy Malkan has done an excellent job telling the story of the creation of CosmeticsDatabase.org. One of my favorite stories in the book is about the teen activists in California and how they become so empowered in the political process. These teens got fired up when they learned how toxic the cosmetics marketed to teens truly are.
Purchase the book online through the Safe Cosmetics Website, and fifteen percent of the sale will benefit the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (please allow 10 days for shipping). I encourage you to become informed and help SafeCosmetics.org keep an eye on the big cosmetic companies who thoroughly enjoy being unregulated.
