Laura Mercier Make-Up Experience
Beauty Blog: Make-up
As much as I love beauty products, buying them, trying them, collecting them, I do not want to spend hours putting on make-up every day. I am not the type of person who makes sure they get up in time to have flawless make-up before I leave the house. Some days I don’t even worry about make-up. However this might scare some out in the world when I show up without the make-up but who cares.
I recently blogged about my Orlane facial with Kellie at Neiman Marcus. Well after my facial, Kellie set me up with Debbie at the Laura Mercier counter. Debbie has been a product specialist with Laura Mercier for over ten years. I would say that would make her a pretty good expert on these products. Debbie was very friendly and asked me what my make-up style was and what I did on a daily basis related to make-up. Since Debbie works at a make-up counter you can bet she spends time getting her make-up perfect and she looked great. However, I do not have that kind of time each day.
Here is what I told Debbie. I am a mother, I do not spend a lot of time putting on make-up daily, I don’t wear make-up every day and I do not like to feel that I have a ton of product on my face. Less is more. Oh and I do not do lipstick. Debbie had ideas for me to make my look simple and soft. I was ready for her lead.
We started with
Mercier’s Foundation Primer, here is the info on it. It is a lightweight, creamy gel meant to be used prior to foundation, creating an invisible layer that acts as a buffer to outside elements.
* Just as a painter “primes” a canvas, Foundation Primer - the original - was created by Laura Mercier in 1995 to “prime” the skin
* Colorless gel leaves makeup looking fresh & colour-true the entire day
* Ideal for normal & combination skin
* Vitamins A, C, & E act as antioxidants & protect the skin from harmful, aging effects of the environment
* Cooling Foundation Primer in the refrigerator is refreshing for the skin & reduces puffiness
As the primer went on my skin it did not feel like a heavy product and seemed like something I could use. I was interested to see in the long run if it would actually keep my make-up on the entire day.
Next Debbie selected a foundation that would match my skin tone, a Tinted Moisturizer.
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer is a sheer, lightweight moisturizer with SPF 20 & a hint of color that can be used in place of foundation for a natural appearance while adding a healthy glow to your complexion.
* Moisturizing formula hydrates skin, softening & easing fine, dry lines
* Leaves a natural, dewy finish
* Features an antioxidant vitamin complex that acts as a free radical scavenger to protect the skin from even the most aggressive effects of the environment
* Extremely long-wearing, stays colour true & wears evenly
* Add SPF and a sheer finish to the skin by mixing 50% Tinted Moisturizer into your Foundation
I liked that the Tinted Moisturizer was light weight, had SPF included and went on smooth. I didn’t really look like I had a foundation on, my skin tone was just evened out. As with every makeover, I was given info and the tricks of using additional products that I would not be using every day. So my next step was Concealer - an Undercover Pot a, travel-friendly pot that combines steps three and four of the Flawless Face into one convenient package for flawless touch-ups. This reminded me of a similar product that I had purchased in the past from Bobbi Brown. Setting powder was added and then we were able to move onto the eyes. Debbie did not want to put blush on my cheeks until we had finished my eyes.
My brows were touched up with Laura Mercier Brow Powder Duo, a two-pan compact that allows you to custom-blend a precise shade that works best to create naturally, beautiful eye brows. I think my brows were a little too dark for my hair and face but I didn’t mention this. In the end they seemed to blend just fine. Laura Mercier Eye Basics which creates the perfect canvas for eyes by camouflaging eye imperfections and enhancing the durability of eye makeup was added to my eyelids before eye shadow. The Eye Basics did add an even tone to my eyelids and would allow for the shadow to last longer. Two different eye shadows were added to give my eyes a soft look. Then Debbie discussed with me how to apply eye liner the Laura Mercier way. I was intrigued. I am not the best at putting on eye liner, I have picked up tricks along the way - using gels, using cake solution - but I am still interested in new, better ways.
Debbie delivered!
Laura Mercier Eye Liner is an easy-to-use, mistake-proof eye liner that delivers long-lasting pure colour.
* Used wet - a velvet matte finish & the buildable pigment allows you to create infinite looks
* Apply as a natural, thin line to a thicker, more dramatic look
* Light-reflective pigments add brightness & life to the eye
* Long-wearing, smudge resistent and colour-true
* Removes easily with Eye Makeup Remover - Waterproof
Debbie applied the eye liner with a flat eye liner brush and gave me detailed instructions on how to do my other eye. If you would like more information on the application visit: eye liner and click application tips. You will get a step by step account on how to apply and get great looking eyes.
Next was the addition of the mascara - black- and blush. Debbie instructed me that the Laura Mercier blush brushes are flat on the sides and that is how the blush should be applied. Finally a moisture rich lip gloss was added and I was finished. I did like my new look. Could I pull it off every day? No, but I could and would use some of the tips Debbie provided. I also was going to purchase three of the products Debbie used. If I had my bottomless pit of money, I would have purchases everything applied to my face and the brushes Debbie used.
Debbie was very enjoyable to work with. She instructed me to come back if I had an event to get ready for and she would do my makeup. She also reminded me that the make-up session was free of charge. So I encourage you to visit Debbie at the Laura Mercier counter to see what she can teach you about make-up application, how to add a few new products into your collection and just learn more about Laura Mercier. The prices are very reasonable especially if you ever shop Bobbi Brown or MAC.
Remember to tell Debbie that Pamper Yourself Denver sent you and if you go make sure you your feedback.
