How to Care for Your Goods
Beauty Blog: Make-up
How do you take care of your beauty tools? From brushes to sponges to tweezers, do you take care of them? Do you clean them like you should? Well to be perfectly honest I clean my brushes often but I do not remember the last time I cleaned my tweezers since I use them to pluck stray hairs from my eyebrows. I also do not remember ever really cleaning my eyelash curler.
After doing a recent blog on being clean and keeping sheets clean, purses clean I thought I might want to examine how often beauty tools should be cleaned. Here is what I found out..
- brushes should be cleaned every month or two depending on how dirty they are and how often you use them. The brushes that you use every day should be cleaned monthly. I suggest using a brush cleaner rather than just soap and water. Brush cleaner is designed for brushes and does a better job in my opinion. Remember never to submerge your bushes in water because it will loosen up the glue that holds the brushes in place. You will damage your brushes in the long run.
- sponges can be washed a ton of times if they are good quality sponges. You can use a mild soap and water to get the job done. If you do use cheaper sponges, they will not last as long.
- powder puffs should be hand washed with the same soap used for your brushes. Again we suggest you use brush cleanser. You can also put them in with your laundry or in the dishwasher if you would like. However I recommend you just take the time to hand wash them.
- tweezers should be sharpened when dull because they are no longer effective. Go to a knife store to get them sharpened. You should also clean them with warm soap and water or with something stronger if you are using your tweezers for something other than plucking your eyebrows.
- eyelash curlers should have their rubber pads replaced when they become hard and start to crack. You should always keep a set on hand in the event one cracks when you are using it. This is less expensive than replacing your curler.
Good luck at keeping your tools clean.
