With the lives of everyone becoming more and more complicated and busy, do you ever stop to think about being clean? Not in terms of taking a shower or washing your hands daily but keeping your items and your home clean? Do you think about how often you wear your clothes before you wash them? Wearing jeans three to four times before they are washed may not seem like a bad idea unless you seriously think about what types of germs and bacteria have gotten on those jeans and then spread to your other clothes while waiting around.
Our clothes are not the only item in our homes that harbor germs. How often do you wash the sheets on your bed? Weekly, twice a month, monthly? If you do not wash them often you might want to reconsider your reasons. If you do not take a bath every night and wear clean clothes to bed, you will be passing germs to your sheets. Think of doing this over and over, how clean can your sheets really be? I wash my sheets once a week usually, but am considering washing them at least once a week if not more. Throw them in with your towels if you feel like you are wasting a load.
How often do you clean your shower or your toilet? Now these are not fun jobs but they must be done. Do not think that your daily soap and water wash is enough for your shower to stay clean - you must take the time to blast out those germs. Sames goes for your toilet. Don’t assume if you stick one of those bowl cleaners in there that you do not need to use a scrub brush to get the germs gone.

Sixty percent of respondents admitted they didn’t wash their sheets once a week - the suggested practice by ‘germ experts’ given our beds are full of dust mites and other ‘debris’. Sixteen percent divulged a once per month washing and 10 percent disclosed they did it less than once every 30 days.
Only 21 percent said they cleaned their refrigerator once a month and 19 percent said they did so every three months. Germ watchers say one time per month is acceptable, provided nothing had been spilled or dripped. Those sticky splotches and puddle gatherings of moisture and liquids can be breeding grounds for both E. coli and salmonella.
Half of the survey participants claimed they cleaned their toilets at least once a week (15 percent said they did so multiple times per week), but eight percent admit they only tackle the bowl once a month.
Tubs and showers didn’t fare much better, as most folks think the showering/bathing process (soap and water) is sufficient. Twelve percent of survey responders said they cleaned the tub every couple of months and a full two percent said they didn’t bother to clean it at all.
Apparently we keep our bodies cleaner than our homes, but the margin is slighter than expected.
Eleven percent said they wear their clothes as many as five times between washings, and five percent copped to wearing the same underwear as many as three times between launderings. Almost 90 percent of the women polled said they wear a bra only once or twice before washing.
The ‘germ doctors’ who reviewed the findings would like to remind those multiple clothes-wearers that in addition to perspiration, our skin sheds about 40,000 cells per day.
