Amazing Mom Stories....
I never thought I had an extraordinary mom. My mother was always just another mom, a mom that was “average”. When I was young my mother worked long hours in a stove factory to help my dad provide for us. Our family also farmed. A typical day for my mom would be to get my brother and me up, put breakfast on the table, take us to my grandmothers house, go to work, come home and cook dinner, and
then start breaking beans for canning or bringing in whatever crop was to be harvested. Sometimes she would be up past midnight canning fruits and vegetables for the winter. I do not recall any complaints.
As my brother and I started school she eventually became a kindergarten teacher so that we could go to a Christian school that our church started. Since we lived so far from the school she drove the school van
to pick up all the kids on our way “to town” She was with us all the time; but. . . . . we did not have the opportunity to get into mischief because she made it her job to be with us. I can not remember a game,
field trip, or special event that my mother did not attend.
As a young adult I often did not have time for a relationship with my mom. I thought she was a little backwards due to her conservative, country ways. Now I live over a thousand miles away from my mother and I cherish every minute I hear her voice on the phone. Every opportunity I have to spend time with her I try to learn more about her. I recently visited my mom and my dad and I watched as she called about a friend who was going through hard times. The empathy and concern in her voice was so genuine. I watched her when we went to the nursing home as she took care of her mother with such love and comfort. She spoke and visited with the mother’s and father’s of others and ministered to them. I watched her rub the head of an elderly lady who had suffered a stroke. At a funeral I watched her console a widow, not just with her words but her touch. I have discovered that my mother is a strong wonderful person who has many desirable attributes. She is honest and sweet and authentic in a world in which those qualities are difficult to find. She is hard working, and she does not complain. She has an unwavering spirituality that keeps her grounded and committed to her beliefs. My mother is extraordinary in my eyes. - Marsha
