Certified Organic?
Beauty Blog: Health and Fitness, Skin care
I recently had the chance to get to know Erin Ely who is a ONEgroup Independent Representative and sells Miessence at ElyOrganics.com. She was able to share some wonderful information on what Certified Organic Products are.
Certified Organic Products meet a defined, verifiable standard. The term certified organic is a food standard. The only way customers can be assured that they are purchasing Real Organic products produced without the use of synthetic chemicals and Gentically Modified Organisms (GMO’s) is to purchase products which have been organically certified with a leading independent certifying body such as:
Australian Certified Organic (ACO)
USDA
IFOAM
Products labeled “organic” must consist of at least 95 percent organically produced ingredients (excluding water and salt). Any remaining product ingredients must consist of nonagricultural substances approved on the National List including specific non-organically produced agricultural products that are not commercially available in organic form.
Currently, body care products are not required to comply with the stringent organic food standards maintained by certification bodies such as the BFA and NASAA in Australia and the USDA in America, hence the plethora of so many “organic” body care products now on the market.
Since water is the primary ingredient in many cosmetics, some manufacturers are claiming to use organic hydrosols, or floral water, to green wash their products and make organic label claims whilst using the same synthetic toxic ingredients that would NEVER be allowed in organic food products. I believe this practice has the potential to destroy the integrity of the organic name.
miessence® is currently one of a few skin care products on the planet that has submitted to, and complies with, the rigorous processing and labeling requirements for certified organic food products. http://elyorganics.com/media/files/ONEgroupCertifications.pdf another reason why truly organic products cost more, each ingredient must be verified with a paper trail back to the seed. When the certifier comes to inspect, each ingredient in every certified organic product must have a paper trail to verify that it came from a certified organic seed, plant, etc. And also the manufacturing plant must also be certified organic. So this is a huge commitment on the part of a company to meet this standard of certified organic.

Comments on Certified Organic?
Sometimes it’s really that simple, isn’t it? I feel a little stupid for not thinking of this myself/earlier, though.
