An Interview with TilVee Founder

I have had the pleasure of trying out several of TilVee’s wonderful products and have blogged about their Naked Lip Balm. Before I blogged about too many of their products, I wanted to get behind the name and find out more about the founder Kristie McNamara and the company she founded. Here is what I learned from her.
How and why was your company founded?
I became fascinated with beauty products while working at a health food store during college. I was studying chemistry and botany at Michigan State University and so was particularly interested in the chemistry that went into making these beauty products. I began realizing that many of the ingredients were considered harmful and unnecessary from a formulating perspective, so I began making some of my own. I started sampling my formulations at the health food store and the response was incredible.
How long has your company been in business?
Since 2000
Why Organic?
I believe that the food you put in and on your body should be as pure and close to it’s natural state as possible in order for our body to assimilate it properly. Toxic chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides are not meant to be ingested by our bodies, plus they harm our environment.
How are your products similar or different from other Organic products out there?
Tilvee takes a unique approach to formulating skin care products. 1) We do not ever use any ingredients that are potentially harmful, such as parabens, fragrances, harsh preservatives, formaldehyde donors such as urea. 2) The ingredients we use are nutrient rich and most times have several benefits. For example, we use Rooibos as part of our preservative system and it also acts as a free radical scavenger (anti-oxidant). We like to use products rich in Essential fatty acids, antioxidants and cell regenerative properties.
How often do you introduce new products?
That varies, while we like to keep the skin care routine simple, there is always room for new and interesting products.
Do you only sell your products online?
No, we are sold in health food stores across the nation as well as Whole Foods in the Colorado, NM, Utah, Kansas region.
What is your favorite product for women?
The Acai and Pomegranate Rejuvenating Masque. It comes in it’s pure freeze dried fruit state, so you can hydrate it with just about anything from honey to juice or yogurt. It exfoliates, softens and infuses the skin with cell protecting ingredients.
What is your favorite product for men?
The Muscle & Joint Recovery Balm OR the Lip Balm. Men tend to really enjoy both of these, especially if the former is massaged in by their significant other
What is your favorite product for children?
The Mandarin Remedy balm is really amazing for wounds, rashes and dry skin. We use fresh infusions of Calendula and Chickweed which help to soothe and heal the skin. It becomes the “go to” balm for children.
How do you see your company growing in the next several years? Are you going to add new products to your line?
We are formulating 3 new products right now! They will fill in some holes in our facial line. We are very excited, they should launch by fall of this year. We would love to go national with Whole Foods. We believe that their ethics are in line with ours and hoping for a good partnership with them. We also enjoy connecting with our customers through our website and blog, we have been really focused on social networking lately. Not just for driving sales, but more for educating and making an difference in the way we all treat our bodies and environment. We hope to raise the level of awareness in everyone we meet so that they can live a healthier life.
