10k Training Begins

I have never done a 10k before. In the past I have wanted to run a marathon and then a half but I never did. I realized over time that I did not have the desire to run a marathon but I did have the desire to run a half. The desire for the half was changed after I had shin splints and was told that I wouldn’t make the one I had signed up for. I was sad but I realized that a race is not as important as my health. Then I had a baby and running got pushed to the side.
I am back to running but not with the same heart as before. I wonder why my desire and need to run isn’t as strong as it once was. I started to run after I lost my daughter Kenzi in 2007 when she was born sleeping when I was 6 months pregnant. I ran and I loved it then. I think I ran from my pain. But since then I have had two kids and found a passion for spinning. I don’t take classes like I would like to but I spin three times a week on my own. However that does not get one ready for a race alone. So I needed a race to do and I needed a plan.
I decided to do a race in Colorado Springs in July and it is about 8 weeks away so I need a training plan. I found a GREAT one on the web and then my computer freaked out and it was gone. I can’t find it no matter how hard I try. So I found a new one and began yesterday. I did the 2.5 miles in combination with running on a treadmill and biking longer. I just can’t do the ‘mill so I need to run outside. Today is a 30 minute cross train day so I will ride the bike and then start running outside. By the end of the week I need to run three miles. I know I can do it, I just need to find that need and desire to run again.
I plan to write about my traning and then the race as it gets nearer. I also hope this training will help me reach my goal weight that is so close yet so far away and help me trim the middle section/tummy that I still have not gotten to go away 9 months after my son.
